Our Mission
Our History
Health and Safety

We want you to know that the physical and emotional safety of your child is our #1 priority. The following details some of the primary parent concerns about their child coming to camp. We are in hopes that this will alleviate any concern you may have regarding the well-being of your child with us each summer.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Kiowa U: Only Camp Kiowa campers and staff have access to certain floors in the Guinn Hall dormitory. In general, aside from the very small amount of summer school students attending TWU, the campus is primary utilized by Camp Kiowa. The lower dormitory doors are locked 24 hours a day and only accessible with a scan card provided only to those who have been cleared through the university. A front desk staff person is present at the front door at all times.

Adventure Kiowa
: Adventure Kiowa is a fully gated community.  Both entrances are secured with a locked gate 24/7 that can only be opened with a code or by contacting the staff within camp.  Occasionally YMCA campers will be present on camp property but will not partake in any of Kiowa's activities.  Only Kiowa campers and staff members will have keys to their respective cabins.

SECURITY

Kiowa U: A wonderful advantage we have in our relationship with TWU is the access we have to the TWU police department. The department patrols the campus and its surroundings 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. They are on-call for us and know that we occupy certain floors of the dormitories during the summer. We also have individual staff members "walking the halls" before and after lights are turned out at night.

Adventure Kiowa:  The entire camp is connected to an emergency sound system that allows staff members to make announcements that can be heard by everyone on camp property.

OFF CAMPUS TRIPS

Trips are taken off-campus approximately once on a weekday evening and twice on weekend day trips. Camp Kiowa employs a professional transportation company to transport your child in these instances. The driving company has had background checks done on all of their employees, and are trained as professional drivers. Camp Kiowa staff accompany all of our off-campus trips as well.

MEDICAL PERSONNEL

We are very fortunate to have a full-time RN on our staff, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week at both of our facilities. At Kiowa U, we also have total access to the TWU health center in case of a larger emergency. The TWU health center employees a large group of registered nurses as well as a full-time doctor. Prior to the summer, they are given copies of each of our camper's health information in case of a situation where they would need to access these files.

ACTIVITIES

All of our activities are led by trained professions. Lifeguards, challenge course facilitators, and rock climbing instructors are professionals provided with, and certified through, the university. If any one of our staff members plays a role in any of these activities, they will have been tested and certified through a certifiable instructor. Campers DO NOT have access to the pool, rock wall, or any other activity without authorized personnel with them.

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION

As many of our campers fly to the Dallas area on opening day of their session, we have strict protocol that we follow to insure the safety of your child's arrival at camp. Prior to camp, we will attain all the information we need from you regarding your child's flight (Flight times and Airline, person dropping them off at airport, emergency contact, etc.). We will also give you the name of the staff member(s) who will be picking them up at their gate. There will never be a time when your child is alone in the airport. We have made special arrangements with each airline in order to get a staff member into the terminal to wait for your child to walk, safely, off the plane. You will have all of our contact information, and we will contact you immediately upon your child's arrival at camp.
